Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technology Program
The Department of Radiology at Michigan State University offers a 9 month educational opportunity in Magnetic Resonance Imaging. The program is designed for registered radiographers with a desire to complete a comprehensive study of MRI. The program in MRI offers an excellent foundation for a career in MR technology and prepares students to confidently complete the MR advanced level certification exam.
The MR program was established in 1988, in response to the recognized need for highly trained MRI technologists. A strong curriculum offers experience in all aspects of MR with primary instruction in MR physics, cross-sectional anatomy and pathology; in addition to nine months of practical clinical training. During the clinical training, students enhance their skills in patient care activities, protocols and scanning techniques as well as safety in the MR environment.
The MR faculty and staff includes radiologists, physicists and MR certified technologists. All are directly involved and committed to student education.
The MRI Department, located on the MSU campus, offers the most advanced equipment on which to train. This department operates two clinical G.E. Signa 1.5Tesla magnets equipped with state-of-the-art software including the new Signa Horizon with Echo Planar Imaging (EPI). This facility averages thirty patients per day with a variety of cases. Students gain considerable experience in Neuro imaging, Orthopedics and MR Angiography.
The MR units employ the latest Advantage Windows System, a software tool used for advanced image manipulation, analysis and 3-D angio reconstruction.
Additional interactive computer tutorials are offered to assist in understanding MR physics and anatomy.
We are very excited about the future in MRI and would like to share this with you. If you are interested in a new challenge and are thinking about broadening your knowledge in radiologic science, consider the opportunities in MRI.
